    Details of Position

    The number of fellowships is 105 (Indicative). Selected candidates will register for Ph.D. in Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI).

    Fellowship Stage Stipend (Per Month) Tenure
    Junior Research Fellow (JRF) ₹37,000/- Two years (subject to review)
    Senior Research Fellow (SRF) ₹42,000/- (consolidated) From third year onwards

    Additionally, candidates are entitled for a contingency grant including book allowance of ₹60,000/- per year, and financial assistance for attending one International Conference abroad during the PhD Programme.

    Selected candidates should be ready to carry out their PhD work at BARC, Mumbai, and other BARC facilities located at Kalpakkam, Indore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Visakhapatnam.

    Eligibility Details

    Age Limit

    • Candidate should be less than 28 years of age as on 01-08-2026.
    • Age relaxation is applicable: 3 years for OBC-NCL, 5 years for SC/ST, and 10 years for PwBD applicants.

    Educational and Examination Criteria

    Candidates must be an Indian national with a consistently good academic record and must have cleared at least one of the following national level examinations, with a valid certificate as on 01-07-2026:

    • UGC-CSIR-NET Fellowship (SLET/ Lectureship not eligible)
    • JEST Score
    • ICMR-JRF Test, ICAR-JRF Test
    • DBT-JRB Biotechnology eligibility Test
    • GATE Score in Physics/ Chemistry/Life Sciences/ Biotechnology
    • JGEEBILS

    Academic Qualifications and Minimum Marks:

    The eligible qualification is M.Sc. /Integrated M.Sc. / B.S-M.S. (Dual degree) /B.S. (with fourth year Research).

    • M.Sc.: Minimum 60% aggregate in B.Sc. and 55% aggregate in M.Sc.
    • Five years Integrated M.Sc. / B.S-M.S. (Dual degree): Minimum 55% aggregate.
    • 4-year / 8-semester B.S. (with fourth year Research): Minimum 75% aggregate.

    All academic requirement for the award of qualifying degree must be completed before 10th August 2026.

    Application Details

    The facility for online submission of application is available from 10/03/2026 to 31/03/2026.

    Application Fee: ₹500/- (Rupees five hundred only), payable online via net banking/ debit card/ credit card, UPI, etc.

    Fee Exemption: Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwBD are exempted from the application fee.

    Required Documents for Upload during Application: SSC/H.Sc./B.Sc./ M.Sc./ Integrated M.Sc./ B.S-M.S. (Dual degree) /B.S. (with fourth year Research) mark sheets, Degree Certificate, valid Qualifying Examination Score Card, and Caste certificate (if applicable).

    • All required certificates/documents (originals) must be brought at the time of interview for final verification.
    • Age, qualification, community status, and creamy layer status will be reckoned as on 01-08-2026.
    • A valid e-mail ID and Mobile Number are mandatory for submission.

    • The fellowship does not confer any right for regular employment.
