Eligibility Details
Essential Qualification:
- Post Graduate degree in Physical Sciences (Physics/ Applied Physics/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Climate Science/ Geophysics with Meteorology/ Environmental Sciences/ Electronics or related subjects) OR Chemical Sciences (Chemistry/ Physical Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry or related subjects) OR Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics/ statistics or related subjects). OR M. Tech. in Atmospheric/ Oceanic Sciences or related subjects. OR Master's degree from any branch of Engineering.
- Must have qualified in one of the national level examinations: CSIR-UGC NET / UGC NET / ICAR NET (Lecturership / Assistant Professorship) / GATE / JEST.
- Minimum Marks: At least 55% aggregate marks for General and OBC Category (50% for SC, ST and PwBD) in the Master's degree.
- Candidates should have studied Physics AND Mathematics subjects at the bachelor's degree level.
Age Limit:
28 years as on 27.04.2026.
Age Relaxation:
- 05 years for SC, ST, PwBD, and Women candidates.
- 03 years for OBC (Non-creamy-layer) candidates.
Emoluments:
Rs. 37,000/- p.m. plus admissible HRA.
Tenure:
04 years (The candidate needs to register for Ph.D. within the first two years, or as per CSIR/UGC guidelines).
Desirable Qualification:
Demonstrated skills in computer programming (FORTRAN, C, PYTHON) and working experience in Linux, UNIX, Windows platforms.

Important Conditions
- Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
- The positions are purely temporary and for a specific duration.
- The number of positions is provisional.
- Candidates with valid DST-INSPIRE fellowship, but not qualified in other national exams, must avail the DST-INSPIRE fellowship only.
- Selected candidates must register for Ph.D. in recognized Universities within the first two years.
Mode of Selection
Selection will primarily be based on the marks obtained in the Interview. If a large number of applications are received, IITM may conduct a written test solely to shortlist candidates for the interview.
