    Assam University, Silchar, a Central University, is inviting online applications for immediate recruitment against positions sanctioned under the Dr. Ambedkar Chair Scheme, established in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

    This notification (No. 5/2025 dated January 16, 2026) seeks highly qualified Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) for the roles of Chair Professor and Assistant Professor on a deputation/contract basis at its headquarters in Silchar.

    Eligibility Details

    Chair Professor Qualifications:

    • An eminent scholar with Ph.D. degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of a minimum of 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120.
    • Minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university/college as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor, and/or equivalent research experience, with evidence of having successfully guided a doctoral candidate.
    • OR An outstanding professional, having Ph.D. Degree in the relevant/allied/applied disciplines from any academic institution/industry who has made significant contribution, supported by documentary evidence, and has ten years' experience.

    Assistant Professor Qualifications:

    • A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
    • Must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET, OR must have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with UGC Regulations (2009 or 2016 amendments). Specific conditions apply for candidates registered for Ph.D. prior to July 11, 2009.
    • Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution ranked among top 500 globally (QS, THE, or ARWU) is an alternative route (See detailed conditions in original advertisement).

    Relaxation: A relaxation of 5% in marks for eligibility (55% to 50% for Master's/Ph.D.) may be provided for SC/ST/Differently-abled/OBC (Non-creamy layer) categories.

    Application Details

    Deadline: The last date for receiving the hard copy of the application, after successful online submission, is 20th February 2026.

    Method: Application submission is strictly Online via the university website or the Samarth portal.

    Fee: A non-refundable Registration Fee of Rs. 1000/- (for UR, OBC & EWS) and Rs. 500/- (for SC, ST, PWD) must be paid via the online payment gateway. Women candidates are exempted from payment of fees.

    Required Documents: Candidates must print the submitted online application PDF, sign it, get it forwarded by their employer (if employed), and send it with self-attested copies of certificates/mark-sheets (10th standard onwards), publications, and supporting documents by the deadline.

    Important Conditions

    • The medium of instruction in the University is English.
    • Candidature is purely provisional at all stages. Incomplete applications will be rejected summarily.
    • Candidates already in employment must apply through the proper channel or submit a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) at the time of the interview.
    • Experience and qualification will be reckoned as on the last date of submission of online application (20.02.2026).
    • Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
